he city administration launched on Tuesday an online competition, famously known as #HackJak (Hack Jakarta), for students and IT experts to develop useful applications for the city.
The organizer of the competition, the Jakarta Development Planning Board (Bappeda), required all contestants to use official data available in the city's administration websites, such as jakarta.go.id, smartcity.jakarta.go.id, and data.jakarta.go.id, to develop new applications for Jakarta.
Bappeda head Tuty Kusumawati explained that there were three categories in this tournament: Scrapathon, Visualthon and Hackathon.
Scrapathon is a data-scrapping competition, while Visualthon is a competition in which participants must design an information graphic to describe the city's services.
Hackathon, the main competition, is a competition in which participants must make an application using the city's data.
"There will be total prize money of more than Rp 75 million (US$5,632) for the winners," Tuty said. (dew/ika)(+++)
