KPK may name further suspects in Century case

T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has said it is looking into several further potential suspects in a graft case surrounding the extending of short-term assistance (FPJP) to Bank Century and its determining as a failed bank with a systemic impact.

'€œThe names of several figures have been mentioned. The measures we will take to follow up the findings are still being discussed by parties that are currently handling the Century case. They have not yet formulated their policies,'€ KPK investigator Yudi Kristiana said as quoted by Antara on Tuesday.

Under Article 55 of the Criminal Code [KUHP], Yudi said, a collective crime entailed collective responsibility.

In its ruling on former Bank Indonesia deputy governor Budi Mulya, the Jakarta Corruption Court mentioned several other names it deemed to have been involved in the Century case, including then BI governor Boediono, then senior deputy governor Miranda Swaray Goeltom and five then deputy governors, namely Ardhayadi Mitroatmodjo, Harmansyah Hadad, Hartadi Agus Sarwono, S Budi Rochadi and Siti Chalimah Fadjriah, as well as Raden Pardede, then Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) secretary.

'€œArticle 55 of the KUHP stipulates that anyone said to have been with a defendant during the occurrence of a criminal case may be held responsible. This responsibility is no longer valid for Ibu Siti Fadjriah,'€ said Yudi. Siti died of illness on June 16.

The KPK investigator added that in a case development based on a judge'€™s verdict, the investigating team would usually write an official note to the commission'€™s leaders to follow up on whether the other suspect potentials could also be held responsible for the case.

It would also ask whether KPK leaders could follow up the finding by organizing a legally binding case development expose.

In an expose forum, Yudi went on, the KPK could determine whether to follow up a case.

'€œIn the Century case, only Budi Mulya and Siti Chalimah Fadjriah'€™s cases have been processed. But during their trials, the involvement of other people was discovered,'€ he said. (ebf)(++++)
