he police have foiled an attempt to smuggle six tons of subsidized kerosene from Talaud in North Kalimantan to Manado, North Sulawesi, on Tuesday.
'The smuggling attempt was foiled when the kerosene was to be transported on a ferry in the ferry port in Melaonguane,' Talaud Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Hendra Sukaca said as quoted by kompas.com.
He said the kerosene had been put in 231 jerry cans that were seized for further investigation so as to arrest the smugglers. The police would also question the ferry's crew members and the port's on-duty supervisor to get information on the kerosene's owner.
He admitted that the smuggling of kerosene has been rampant in the past few months because of the price gap of the basic commodity between the province and North Sulawesi. (rms)(+++)
