Presenter Isyana Bagoes Oka has recently made a big leap into politics by joining the ranks of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), led by former presenter and newscaster Grace Natalie.
At 33 years old, Isyana is considered young for a politician but she says that when it comes to gadgets, she is an old soul and has a very conservative approach to buying them.
'For mothers like me, we find it more important to think about our children's tuition fees rather than purchase the latest gadgets released in the market,' the mother of a 4-year-old daughter told The Jakarta Post at a recent PSI event in Jakarta.
Isyana said that her only gadget was a cheap smartphone and that for her, as long as it allowed her to communicate freely and easily, she was satisfied.
'Sometimes I want to have a smartphone with bigger memory capacity so that I can store more applications or have a better camera but for now, I am satisfied with what I have,' she said.
Smartphone
I use the Xiaomi Redmi 2. I got this phone a couple of months ago. My old Samsung smartphone broke down and I replaced it with this Xiaomi. The reason? Because it was the closest one available when I looked for a new smartphone and in addition, my friends told me that Xiaomi was almost as good as the iPhone.
It cost me less than Rp 2 million (US$150). It was a great replacement for my Samsung, which surely cost more than Rp 2 million.
I am really pleased with my Xiaomi's performance although I must say that at times, I feel kind of reluctant to use the camera for selfies with my friends because the photo results are often too dark.
Applications
Because my Xiaomi does not have a large memory, I keep my application choices slim. As long as I have one app for browsing the Internet, for communicating through WhatsApp and to take pictures then that is enough for me.
I also only installed one social media application and that is Path. I do use Twitter but I only tweet from a desktop computer when I have the time to do so.
I spend more time using Path than Twitter because it is more personal and hence, more secure.
I like to share photos of my child, like other mothers do, and I am worried if I do so in an open public social media space like Twitter or Instagram, then someone might exploit them for all the wrong reasons.
