he Central Java Police will deploy 9,776 officers to provide security so that Idul Fitri can be celebrated smoothly and peacefully in the province.
Central Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Nur Ali said the police officers would be on duty during the homebound exodus, which would peak three days before Idul Fitri as well as after the holiday when people return to their domiciles in big cities.
'We will coordinate with police in neighboring areas and the National Police headquarters,' said Nur in Semarang on Wednesday.
He said all police officers would support the security efforts by every police precinct. 'The Central Java Police will also get additional 800 personnel from the National Police headquarters,' said Nur.
He said several points, namely areas bordering West Java and East Java, would get more attention.
'Many areas have been prepared along homebound routes. We want all holiday travelers to be able to benefit from the rest places,' said Nur.
The head of economic affairs at the Central Java administration's secretariat, Dadang Somantri, said all routes in Central Java were ready to welcome homebound travelers.
'Road repairs are ongoing in several points, but 10 days before Idul Fitri, all roads will be functional. Road repairs will be halted 15 days before Idul Fitri with the hope that traffic will run smoothly,' he said. (ebf)(+++)
