ational Police's Detective Corps chief, Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso said that the police's decision to step up a probes into graft cases was not a public relations campaign to improve the battered image of the corp.

In recent weeks, police investigators stepped up probes into a number of high-profile graft cases including one implicating PT Trans Pacific Pertrochemical Indotama (TPPI).
TPPI, which owed US$406 million to PT Pertamina in 2014, was suspected of selling condensers from the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKKMigas) and had their 2008 to 2011 contract extended even though TPPI did not return the profits to SKKMigas.
In their investigation of the case, police investigators questioned former finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
Earlier this week, police questioned former state-owned enterprises minister Dahlan Iskan for his alleged involvement in a botched project to open 100,000 hectares of rice field in Ketapang, West Kalimantan.
