'We have to appreciate their efforts. Even though they were denied a spot in the final round, we can see that they fought tooth and nail throughout the tournament. We have to be grateful for the result,' team manager Umar Djaidi said in a statement.
The South Korean team took an early lead through mixed doubles pair Kim Hye Jeong and Choi Jong Woo, who crushed Beno Drajat and Yulfira Barkah 16-21, 15-21.
The Indonesian team leveled the score with Firman Abdul Kholik defeating Seo Seung Jae. Firman 21-18, 24-22 in the men's singles match.
Indonesia's hope of reaching the final round rose when Gregoria Mariska won the women's singles match 17-21, 21-15, 21-14 over Kim Ga Eun.
Unfortunately, they lost in the last two ties. Men's doubles pair Andhika Ramadiansyah and Yahya Adi Kumara were outplayed by Choi Jong Woo and Seo Seung Jae 14-21, 12-21, and women's doubles pair Apriani Rahayu and Nisak Puji Lestari lost to Kim Hye Jeong and Park Keun Hye 17-21, 17-21.
China, which defeated Japan in the other semifinal, won the championship with a 3-0 victory over Korea in the final on Wednesday.
