ity-owned bus operator PT Transjakarta announced on Friday that it would temporarily stop the operation of 12 buses following a fire in Salemba, Central Jakarta, this morning.
PT Transjakarta president director Antonius Kosasih explained that the 12 buses had the same specifications as a bus that caught fire at the Salemba bus stop on Friday morning.
The buses, with the brand name Komodo, are local products belonging to transportation firm PT Eka Sari Lorena.
The ban, Antonius said, would enable checks on the technical condition of the remaining buses to avoid a similar incident occurring again in the future.
'We requested Lorena contact their technicians to work together with our technicians to conduct audits and technical examinations on the 12 buses. We will not allow those buses to operate before we check,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Antonius admitted that the company had never conducted an audit on the operation of its buses, as the requirement was not written into any contracts. (ika)
