ast Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Ishak says he will abide by President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo'€™s decision to reject the provincial administration'€™s request for a participating interest of 19 percent in the Mahakam oil and gas block.

'€œIt'€™s the President'€™s decision; so, we accept it,'€ Awang said on Sunday.

He said both East Kalimantan and Kutai Kartanegara administrations were waiting for President Jokowi'€™s written decision.

The governor added that East Kalimantan and Kutai Kartanegara were ready to undergo all the processes the Energy and Mineral Resources had scheduled. '€œ[We are ready] especially to attend a meeting with [state-owned oil and gas company] Pertamina,'€ said Awang.

President Jokowi has divided the participating interests in the Mahakam block, with 70 percent going to Pertamina while the remaining 30 percent is for Total Indonesie-Inpex. The participating interests for East Kalimantan and Kutai Kartanegara administrations are included in Pertamina'€™s participating interest.

It is estimated that there are still at least 1.3 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves in the delta of the Mahakam river and the block will remains profitable until 2022 although no new gas reserves have been discovered. (ebf)
