As someone who works in the information and technology sector, Andrew Darwis, founder of Indonesia's largest online community, Kaskus, considers connectivity a vital aspect of his life. The 36-year-old says that he cannot live without Internet, adding that if he has to travel to another city, he makes sure that the city is equipped with Internet first.
'If there's no Internet, or at least Wi-Fi, I don't want to go because I wouldn't be able to work or check emails,' he said.
'It just doesn't feel right for me to live without Internet'.
Andrew, who graduated with a computer science degree from Seattle University in the US, set up Kaskus in 1999 as a school project, managing the website in between his studies and work.
Before taking Kaskus home to Indonesia in 2008, he said that he was worried he would not have high-speed Internet like in the US.
'I used to think that Internet in Indonesia was very slow. But after a while, I noticed that there have been some efforts to improve the service here,' he said.
The improvement of Internet infrastructure in the country has been followed by the emergence of new players in e-commerce and the online forum.
But Andrew said that although that meant new competitors for Kaskus, such a condition was actually good as it helped boost awareness of the digital world.
'The virtual ecosystem is growing rapidly and now all players can share the task of educating users about the Internet and all of its activities,' he said.
Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and iPhone 6
I've been a huge fan of Android and I only used Android prior to using iPhone to regularly check the Kaskus application for iOS. I like Samsung because I can take out the battery when it's running low, replacing it with the extra, so I don't have to bring a power bank everywhere. I also keep a portable battery charger in my car.
Bolt
Before the Bolt, I used the tethering mode to share Internet among my devices. This mobile broadband Wi-Fi router is such a life saver, fulfilling my needs for the Internet everywhere. Unfortunately, the service is not available in all cities.
Google Chrome
This is my favorite web browser because it's simple and easy to use. I use it every day for work to check emails and to surf the Internet to read the news and of course to open Kaskus.
