KPK searches Medan court office

A

n investigation team from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) searched the Medan State Administrative Court (PTUN) offices on Jl. Sunggal, Medan, on Saturday, following the arrest of three of the court'€™s judges.

Antara reported on Sunday that the search conducted by the KPK team took place at around 10 p.m. local time at the offices of the court'€™s chief justice, identified only with the initials TIR, the registrar secretary, identified as SYR, and two court judges, AF and DG.

The anti-graft body'€™s investigation team also searched the official residence of the PTUN Medan chief justice, which is located on Jl. Offset, Pulo Brayan Darat II, East Medan. The team later expanded its search to the registrar secretary'€™s house on Jl. Dahlia, Medan Tembung. A number of police personnel assisted the KPK team during the searches.

KPK investigators sealed the office of the chief justice on Thursday and questioned him regarding an alleged graft case at the Medan Police office. The investigators also sealed off the registrar secretary'€™s office and a cupboard in another judge'€™s room on the second floor of the court building.

The KPK arrested the four suspects on Thursday after it caught them appearing to receive bribe money from a Jakarta lawyer, identified only with the initials GB. The lawyer had wanted them to rule in favor of his client in an upcoming case.

In the case, a complainant '€“ an official from the North Sumatra administration identified with initials AFL '€“ filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General'€™s Office (AGO) at the PTUN Medan because the law institution had continued to summon and question the administration'€™s civil servants regarding an alleged misappropriation of Lower Regional Assistance (BDB) and Social Assistance(Bansos) funds during the period of 2012-2013.

The complainant claimed the North Sumatra Prosecutors'€™ Office had already investigated the case. (ebf)
