U.S. stocks closed broadly higher after Greece reached an agreement with its creditors. Greece's government still has to pass tax increases, pension cuts and other measures required by its European lenders before it gets new loans.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 217.27, or 1.2 percent, to close at 17,977.68.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 22.98, or 1.1 percent, to 2,099.60.
The Nasdaq composite gained 73.82, or 1.5 percent, to 5,071.51.
For the year:
The Dow is up 154.61 points, or 0.9 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 40.70 points, or 2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 335.46 points, or 7.1 percent. (hhr)
