Greater Jakarta: Airport urged to crack down on illegal taxis

J

AKARTA: Calls are mounting for state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II to take firm measures against the presence of illegal taxis at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten.

The Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) said that passengers at the airport had complained about unauthorized taxi drivers, who often took a rude approach to getting passengers.

'€œIllegal taxi drivers have reportedly forced passengers to take their taxis by directly carrying the passengers'€™ suitcases to their cars,'€ YLKI chairman Sudaryatmo said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.

Such offenses, he said, took place nearly every day at all three terminals of the country'€™s main gateway. Sudaryatmo said that passengers had expressed their concerns on the matter during a recent forum held with representatives from the airport operator and the Transportation Ministry.

PT Angkasa Pura II president director Budi Karya Sumadi promised that the airport operator would take stern action against unauthorized taxis.

'€œWe will still prioritize having dialogue with them. But if this fails, we will proceed with legal measures,'€ Budi said.
