Eruptions of Mount Raung in Bondowoso, East Java, again closed Denpasar'€™s Ngurah Rai International Airport on Wednesday, this time for about two-and-a-half hours, forcing the cancellation of 57 flights.

The airport chief Yusfandri Gona said Ngurah Rai was closed at about 1 p.m. due to volcanic ash being brought to Bali by winds.

'€œSo, we decided to reopen the airport when the wind direction changed,'€ Yusfandri said.

The reopening of the airport caused some chaos as many passengers had to queue for a long time to reschedule flights.

Two Australian airlines, Jetstar Airways and Virgin Australia Airways, decided to cancel all their flights in and out Bali on Wednesday. The two airline companies informed passengers of the cancellations by email on Wednesday morning, even before the Bali airport authorities announced the official closure.

Jetstar had canceled two flights in and out Bali, while Virgin Australia canceled 10 flights. Canceled flights were from and to several Australian airports, including Darwin, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
