Islands in focus: Muhammadiyah mosque fence damaged

U

nidentified vandals have destroyed a 6-meter-long fence belonging to a Muhammadiyah mosque on Jl. Sisingamagraja, Medan.

The Muhammadiyah Muslim organization'€™s Medan chapter secretary Asri Siregar said the fence, which was just installed on Monday morning, was damaged on Monday night.

'€œWe don'€™t know who destroyed it, but we just know the fence, which was built inside the mosque complex, has been damaged,'€ Asri told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

Asri reported the case to the police, fearing that the vandalism was aimed at provoking anger among Muhammadiyah followers.

Medan Police chief Sr. Comr. Mardiaz Kusin Dwi Hananto said the police were still investigating the vandalism case.

'€œBased on our preliminary investigation, there was no religious motive behind the vandalism. Local residents were angry and destroyed the fence because they no longer had road access [as the fence blocked it],'€ Mardiaz said.
