he National Narcotics Agency (BNN) on Tuesday granted an award to the Jakarta Police's Narcotics Directorate for its success in foiling an attempt to circulate 360 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as shabu-shabu, belonging to an international drug ring from Hong Kong.
'This is one of biggest crystal methamphetamine hauls successfully uncovered by the police, in particular their narcotics unit officers,' said BNN chief Anang Iskandar as quoted by Antara at an award ceremony in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Anang said that he appreciated the work of the police's Narcotics Directorate investigation led by Sr. Comr. Eko Daniyanto. The Directorate managed to prevent the drugs from entering the country.
Anang officially presented the award to the Narcotics Directorate during the ceremony, which was attended by deputy chief of the Jakarta Police Brig. Gen. Nandang Jumantara.
The BNN chief said it was hoped that law enforces would continuously work to eradicate both domestic and international drug ring syndicates operating in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Eko said that narcotics investigators from his directorate would use the award from BNN as a motivation to increase efforts to uncover the circulation of drugs in Indonesia.
He called on all related institutions, including community leaders and civil society members, to fight against drug crimes.
Earlier this month, the Jakarta Police foiled an attempt to distribute 220 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine on July 8.(++++)
