tate-owned train operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has recorded increases in revenue targets, number of passengers and punctuality for this year'€™s mudik (Idul Fitri exodus) season.

'€œFrom our target of Rp 400 billion [US$29.6 million], we collected Rp 423.8 billion,'€ said operational director of KAI Herliyanto as quoted by kompas.com on Monday at a press conference in Jakarta.

KAI also recorded a 26 percent increase in the total number of travelers who used train services during the week before and after the Idul Fitri holiday.

'€œKAI has recorded a number of 9,330,333 passengers '€“ an increase from last year'€™s total of 7,370,068 passengers,'€ said KAI president director Edi Sukmoro at the same press conference.

Punctuality on train schedule was also been improved with services maintaining an average of 82 percent on-time departure and 39 percent on-time arrival. This number is an improvement over last year'€™s 45 percent for departure and 4 percent for arrival.

Earlier, the Ministry of Transportation predicted an increase in the number of mudik travelers. KAI has accommodated this expected increase by extending its mudik schedule of additional rail services until Aug. 2.

Several trains are extending their operational schedules to support the extension, including KA Argo Lawu Fakultatif, KA Taksaka, KA Dwipangga, KA Gajayana Lebaran, KA Sembrani Lebaran, KA Lodaya Lebaran and KA Kutojaya Utara. (rad/kes)(+++)
