Your comments on the issuance of ministerial decree by Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Minister Anies Baswedan, underlining the importance of the ethical (budi pekerti) development/character building of students amid concerns over the lack of ethical comprehension among the nation's youth:
Being a parent today is the most serious and difficult position. Children hardly follow what's being told to them or simply do not care. Parents are the first teachers. They must do the task of teaching kids to be well mannered. Homes are the first schools and children should be properly positioned to have their own room for studies. And yet this isn't enough still.
They behave the way they want and not the way they should. To make a real change on this, teachers themselves must be truly professional and behave in a way that reflects professionalism and an ethical code.
Also, they must be tough on students in terms of ethics and morals. Zero tolerance for misbehaving students might prevent others from acting wildly.

It is indeed needed. But we have to work hand in hand with all elements of society and we have to understand that it is not an easy job and the good results we expect will not materialize in a short time. But still, better late than never.

Children receive examples about what to say and how to behave correctly not only from their parents, other family members and their surroundings, but also from quality books that are really entertaining and good movies. They learn integrity and morals from those around them, especially from the people the kids love and respect. These persons can be parents, grand-parents, teachers or heroes from books.
