Indonesian Diaspora Network (IDN) Global is set to held its third congress in Jakarta on August 12-14.
Themed "Diaspora Bakti Bangsa" (diaspora devoted to the nation), the 3rd Congress of the Indonesian Diaspora (CID) will discuss matters such as livable cities, health, higher education, the economy, dual citizenship, maritime issues and the young generation.
According to IDN Global president Mohamad Al-Arief, the event has received support from the Indonesian government through the Foreign Ministry.
"We expect the congress to not only facilitate discussion between the diaspora and the government and public figures in Indonesia, but also to highlight the diaspora's successful achievements such as promoting livable cities and dual citizenship," said Mohamad as quoted by Antara news agency on Thursday.
Up to 15,000 people are expected to attend the event from many parts of the world including the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Qatar, China, and Australia.
IDN Australia Frans Simarmata added that the committee welcomed the public to participate in the congress and share their ideas and input on the various issues being discussed.
The 3rd CID is scheduled to be opened by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and attended by members of the working cabinet including the foreign minister, maritime affairs and fisheries minister, research and technology and higher education minister, and head of the creative economy agency as well as public figures such as Yenny Wahid, Budi Soehardi and Imam Prasodjo.
The congress will take place at the Bidakara Hotel and SMESCO Convention Hall in South Jakarta. Those interested in participating can register at www.cid-3.com. (kes)(++++)
