rosecutors detained the Banyumas Health Office head Istanto on Thursday on suspicion of misappropriating incentive funds worth Rp 574 million (US$44,000) intended for employees of 39 community health centers (Puskesmas) in the regency.
'We are forced to hold the suspect to expedite the investigation,' Purwokerto Prosecutor's Office Special Crimes section head Sutrisno said on Thursday.
Isnanto, a former director of Banyumas regional hospital, was detained after undergoing questioning from the morning until the afternoon.
Earlier, the prosecutor's office named him a suspect and questioned at least 20 witnesses, all of them employees at the Banyumas Health Office who had received cash sourced from the misappropriated funds.
Banyumas Prosecutor's Office head Masyrobi said Istanto had embezzled regency funds, which should have been given to his subordinates.
