he chairman of Muhammadiyah central executive board for the 2005-2010 period and the 2010-2015 period, Din Syamsuddin, expected that the 47th Muhammadiyah national congress (muktamar) -- along with a congress to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Aisyiyah, the female wing of the second largest Islamic organization in Indonesia, being held simultaneously in Makassar, South Sulawesi, from Aug. 3 to 7 -- could become a model for the organization of a national congress.

In his opening remarks, Din was calling on all the Muhamadiyah family members to thank God because the national congress in Makassar could run well. He said the congress was attended by around 6,000 participants and 500 sympathizers.

'€œMuktamar is a moment to strengthen friendships among Muhammadiyah members, regardless their ethnic backgrounds and origins because they are all looking for God'€™s favor,'€ said Din.

On his remarks, Din took an opportunity to urge people to make both Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah national congresses as an elegant congress which was full with fraternity spirit.

He also called on all Muhammadiyah congress participants and sympathizers to maintain the situation and remain conducive.

Din further explained that Muhammadiyah had continued to develop since it was established in 1912. '€œAs an Islamic mass organization, Muhammadiyah has regional branch offices spread in regions across Indonesia and even other countries, such as Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam,'€ he said.
