he Makassar District Court in South Sulawesi handed down on Tuesday a death sentence to Amiruddin bin Amin for possessing 921.76 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 4,208 ecstasy pills.
Presiding judge Ibrahim Palino said the defendant was proven guilty of violating the 2009 Narcotics Law.
'Therefore, the defendant was given the death sentence,' Ibrahim said.
The death sentence had been sought by the prosecutors.
Amiruddin was arrested on Jan. 17 in a hotel in Makassar. The investigation led the police to find drugs at his house.
Before being arrested in Makassar, Amirrudin had been arrested three times in East Kalimantan. After the last arrest, the East Kalimantan District Court sentenced him to 32 years in prison but he escaped from the prison. (ika)
