he Surabaya chapter of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has threatened to call on all its members and sympathizers to golput (boycott) in the Surabaya mayoral election.
The PKS considers the mayoral election scheduled for Dec. 9 to lack a legal basis, as the candidate registration period was extended by the Surabaya Election Commission based only on a circular from the local Election Supervisory Board.
'So, according to us the registration by the rivals of the Risma-Wisnu [incumbent Mayor Tri Rismaharini and Deputy Mayor Wisnu Sakti Buana] candidate pair, Rasiyo and [Dhimam] Abror, is invalid,' said East Java PKS regional executive board chairman Hamy Wahyunianto as quoted by kompas.com on Wednesday.
Risma and Wisnu had been the sole candidate pair until Rasiyo and Abror registered themselves at the last minute before the deadline.
