Model, actor and technophile Christian Sugiono follows a time-tested method of enlarging his world: by reading books.
His choice of reading material is quite diverse, touching on everything from history, politics and war to sci-fi and alien creatures for novels; and anything technology and science-related for non-fiction books.
'I've always had a thirst for knowledge, science and subjects that I'm curious about,' said Christian, also known as Tian, who earned a Bachelor's degree from the Technical University of Hamburg in Germany where he studied Information Technology.
He is the co-founder and CEO of online media company MBDC Media, known for its flagship product malesbanget.com ' the humorous viral media and video channel.
Born on Feb. 25, 1981, Christian formed his habit of reading during his childhood, and it has remained one of his deep and unbroken habits.
'I read encyclopedias as a kid,' said the father of one who is married to actress Titi Kamal, 'I found them to be mind-opening.'
As he has a discerning taste in books, Christian always looks up book reviews and recommendations before purchasing them. And he ensures that he reads the book in its original language.
'I prefer going to bookstores and reading physical books rather than e-books,' he said.
One will not find an unopened book in his library.
'I don't buy a book to read it later. I buy a book because I need to read it.'

The Da Vinci Code
by Dan Brown (2003)
I have a soft spot for novels with an historical backdrop such as this one and Pompeii (Robert Harris, 2003). I also read the Indiana Jones novels (novelizations of the George Lucas' franchise). I like adventure stories in which the author tries to relate the story to historical facts.
The God Delusion
by Richard Dawkins (2003)
I read this non-fiction book five or six years ago. This book describes how people perceive God, the agnostic and the skeptic. It's a controversial book, but it really opens your mind to understand your beliefs.
Biography and start-up business books
As a tech entrepreneur, reading books about start-up businesses gives me new knowledge on how to manage a company.
I also like books or biographies about the people behind current technological developments, such as the co-founders of Twitter and my favorite, Steve Jobs (authorized self-titled biography book of Steve Jobs, authored by journalist Walter Isaacson, 2011). The book is a page-turner, I finished reading it in a week.
