he National Police directorate of special economic crimes (Bareskrim) has searched through the Pertamina Foundation (PF) office in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, amid allegations of corruption at the institution.
'Based on our current investigations, we suspect there is an unlawful act that has caused state losses through projects [at PF],' said director of Bareskrim Victor E. Simanjuntak on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
Victor added that PF is an institution that manages the corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds at the state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina.
The allegedly corrupt projects at the foundation include the 100 million trees planting program, the construction of PF schools and the PF football academy. All of them, according to Victor, used state funds from 2012 until 2014.
For the tree planting program, PF used state funds of up to Rp 46 billion (US$3.27 million), Rp 137 billion and Rp 70 billion in 2012, 2013 and 2014, respectively.
"The money was paid but the projects were not executed entirely. Even though it was CSR funds, it is still regarded as state money. That is why we categorized it as state losses," said Victor.
Even though no state audit institutions have yet to estimate the state losses, Bareskrim investigators have estimated the losses at Rp 226.3 billion.
Evidence used by investigators in the case include a CSR disbursement document between 2012 and 2014 and an internal audit report from Pertamina, which mentioned issues regarding the programs.
According to Victor, Bareskrim will summons a few people regarding the project, including a woman who is former Pertamina Foundation executive director, identified by the initials NN.
Though the police have not yet named any suspect, they are ready to use Articles 2, 3, 8 and 15 from the Corruption Law, as well as Articles 3, 4 and 5 from the Money Laundering Crimes Law. (rad/kes)(++++)
