he city administration is investigating alleged illegal parking practices at the City Council building's underground parking area, with civil servants implicated in the wrongdoing.
The building's parking area is free of charge and reserved for councilors, civil servants and visitors. However, reports have recently surfaced suggesting city employees have been allowing, and charging, private motorists to use the parking lot. Instead of reporting the practice and handing the money to the city treasurer, the civil servants have allegedly been pocketing the cash.
Jakarta Inspectorate head Lasro Marbun said that he had questioned a number of suspects on Wednesday to determine who was involved in the racket, worth a reported Rp 17 million (US$1,201) a month.
'We will fire any employees found guilty,' Lasro told reporters at City Hall on Wednesday.
