he General Elections Commission (KPU) demands that the Constitutional Court consider the schedule for regional elections (Pilkada) before delivering a verdict on the single ticket phenomenon.
KPU chief Husni Kamil Manik said that if the panel of judges decided to pass a judicial review on the Pilkada Law, allowing single tickets to run in Pilkada, the election committee must allocate more time to adjust to the changes.
The current law provision stipulates that a regional election should be delayed should a pair of candidates not have any contenders.
'There are stages [for the elections] such as registration, campaign and logistics procurement,' he said during a hearing for the judicial review at the court on Tuesday.
Husni said it would take a long time to implement the changes while the elections were scheduled to be held simultaneously on Dec. 9.
Three regencies ' Blitar, East Java: Tasikmalaya, West Java: and North Timor Tengah, East Nusa Tenggara ' had their elections postponed to 2017 after only one ticket in each region qualified to run.
Home Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said the government would wait for the judicial review before further addressing the single-ticket phenomenon.
