akarta Police have named Adhi Subekti, a 46-year-old marketing official at national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, a suspect in the alleged embezzlement of Rp 1.4 billion (US$96,598) worth of complimentary vouchers.
Jakarta Police's general crimes directorate chief Sr. Comr. Khrisna Murti said on Tuesday that the police had arrested the suspect on Monday in Depok, West Java, and had seized evidence, including eight complimentary vouchers and seven electronic tickets.
'The vouchers were supposed to be available for sponsorship events only. The suspect used the vouchers for those companies whose events were not approved by Garuda. He approved the events himself and falsified the signatures and registration numbers,' Khrisna said.
He said the suspect was believed to have conducted the embezzlement, from which he earned a total of Rp 60 million, from September last year to February.
'When exchanging the vouchers, the administration officials rarely checked the validity of the numbers. As long as they saw the signatures and the registration numbers they simply accepted them,' the suspect, who worked for Garuda for 23 years, is alleged to have told police.
Khrisna added that Garuda had been obliged to honor the false vouchers given to recipients.
