Greater Jakarta: Man arrested for parking attendant'€™s death

J

akarta Police arrested on Sunday a murder suspect, identified only as AA, 20, at his house in Depok, West Java, for allegedly killing Asep Suryadi, 24, a parking attendant of Senayan City shopping mall in Central Jakarta.

'€œThe suspect was a parking attendant at the mall who was fired in 2013 for embezzling parking payment money,'€ Jakarta Police criminal detective director Sr. Comr. Khrisna Murti said on Monday.

The police, he said, had confiscated evidence, comprising a pair of shoes, a cell phone, a pair of trousers and a helmet with blood stains from the victim on it. On Sept. 23 at dawn, Asep was found dead with a stab wound on his back at the mall'€™s underground parking post number 4.

'€œThe motive of the killing was robbery,'€ Khrisna said. '€œThe suspect tried to steal the money from the parking post that Asep was guarding.'€

Khrisna said that the suspect went up to the post and asked the victim whether he could change some money. He then threatened the victim by pointing a knife he had been carrying and murdered the victim after he fought back.

After that, he said, the suspect opened the cash safe in the post but found no money. He eventually took a total Rp 2.3 million (US$156.80) and a cell phone from the pocket of the victim'€™s trousers.

'€œThen he left the location. But after several meters, he remembered that the knife was still in the victim'€™s back. So, he decided to go back to the post and take the knife,'€ Khrisna said.

Khrisna said that the suspect would face a maximum imprisonment of 12 years for violating Article 365 of the Criminal Code on theft with violence.

Although interrogations were still ongoing, Khrisna added that, as he had been carrying the knife with him, the police would most likely also charge the suspect under Article 340 on premeditated murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison or the death penalty.
