eputy Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat has ordered the Jakarta Public Housing and Administrative Building Agency to provide libraries for every low-cost rental apartment (Rusunawa) in Jakarta.

Djarot said during the opening ceremony for the library in Rusunawa Tambora in Angke, West Jakarta, on Monday, that he wanted all Rusunawa to be equipped with a library.

'€œIt is an important facility where residents can learn and interact,'€ he said, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Djarot said that a library was not only a place for learning or reading, but also a place that could accommodate other activities.

'€œWe can also use the place to run early childhood education centers (PAUD) and kindergartens,'€ he said.

Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama also ordered the related agency to provide books for children, including fiction books and books on craftsmanship. '€œWe also ask publishers that produce magazines with positive content to regularly send their copies,'€ the governor said.

Djarot said he appreciated the work of the Library and Archives Agency'€™s West Jakarta office for providing the facility.

'€œThis is not funded from private entities through a corporate social responsibility [CSR] program, but funded by the staffers of the office who just received their allowances. I thank you all for the good deed,'€ he said.
