military truck fell into a ravine in Sedoa village, North Lore district, Poso regency, Central Sulawesi, on Sunday, killing five soldiers and injuring 16 more.
Village head Albertus Megati said he and his fellow villagers had helped recover the bodies of the victims and rescue the survivors from the ravine.
Three officers died on the scene, Albertus said, while two others later died despite treatment at the nearby Wuasa community health center.
The bodies had been flown to Palu by helicopter, he added.
An intelligence officer from the Tadulako Military district command said the truck had been transporting 21 officers from Palu to Poso to join the Camar Maleo 4 operation against a group of terrorists.
