The deputy head of the NasDem Party faction at the House of Representatives, Johnny G. Plate, has warned Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Rizal Ramli not to get ahead of President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo in revealing a possible second Cabinet reshuffle to the public.
He said that calling a Cabinet reshuffle was the sole authority of the President.
'A Cabinet reshuffle decision comes under the President's authority, not a minister's, unless he or she is authorized by the President to talk about it,' the lawmaker said as quoted by kompas.com on Thursday.
Johnny, a member of the House Commission XI overseeing finance and banking, said it would be better for Rizal to focus his attention on developing his political communications with counterparts, instead of speculating over a second Cabinet reshuffle, which might take place in December.
The politician also urged Rizal to turn his attention to maritime problems, which fall within the scope of his core duties.
'Work performances and coordination of ministers in terms of the economy, investment, industry and infrastructure all need to be improved. The people want there to be clear improvements in these sectors,' said Johnny.
Earlier, Rizal discussed what he saw as signals the President might reshuffle his Cabinet before the end of 2015, involving mainly, he said, ministers in the law and economics sectors.
'It is probable that before the end of this year, there will be a second Cabinet reshuffle, and Pak Jokowi will choose new men in the fields of law and economics,' Rizal said in a speech at the CORE Economic Outlook event in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The minister said the second reshuffle was needed to maintain the momentum of an ongoing economic recovery.
Rizal joined President Jokowi's cabinet in the middle of August, replacing Indroyono Soesilo.
Earlier, Vice President Jusuf Kalla admitted that one of issues discussed in a meeting between Jokowi and leaders of parties in the Great Indonesia Coalition in Jakarta on Nov.12 was a possible Cabinet reshuffle. However, Kalla said that President Jokowi had conveyed his stance on a second Cabinet reshuffle in the meeting.
'The President has said that now is not the right time for a Cabinet reshuffle,' said Kalla. (ebf)(+)
