Greater Jakarta: Anti-Shiite group reported to police by NU

T

he Bogor branch of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the country'€™s largest Muslim organization, filed a police report with Bogor City Police, in West Java on Monday against the Anti-Shia National Alliance (Annas) for claiming that NU was among the supporters of the recent anti-Shiite movement.

Ifan Haryanto Tanfidziyah, head of the NU Bogor branch, has said that the organization was not involved in Sunday'€™s movement organized by Annas.

'€œThey put our logo in their event, in the declaration produced by Annas Bogor, which gave the impression that we were involved. We feel that we have been defamed,'€ Ifan said on Monday.

Ifan said he had filed a police report against Annas'€™ Bogor branch head Nur Sukma and Annas head Athian Ali M. Da'€™I on Monday morning.

Members of the Bogor branch of Annas had recently held a protest against Shiites, expressing their support to the policy issued by Bogor Mayor Bima Arya, which limited Shia rituals and celebrations in Bogor.
