Produced with a minimal budget and showed only at limited screenings, drama movie Siti grabbed national attention after winning the Piala Citra (Citra Award) for Best Picture at the Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) on Monday.

Joko Anwar won Best Director for A Copy of My Mind, while Tara Basro grabbed the Best Actress trophy for her portrayal of a salon worker entangled in a political scandal.

'€œThis goes to my best friend and director Joko Anwar and my lover on screen, Chicco Jerikho,'€ Tara said upon receiving the award at Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) venue in BSD City, Banten.

The Best Actor trophy went to seasoned actor Deddy Sutomo, who plays a father in Mencari Hilal (The Crescent Moon).

'€œAt this old age, it is an honor for me to receive awards,'€ said Dedy, who also received a standing ovation from the audience.

Siti also won in the Best Original Screenplay category (Eddie Cahyono) and Best Music Director (Krisna Purna), for a total of three awards.

A Copy of My Mind similarly received three Piala Citra thanks to Khikmawan Santosa as Best Sound Director.

Another movie that won three awards was historical biopic Guru Bangsa: Tjokroaminoto (The Nation'€™s Teacher: Tjokroaminoto), which won Best Artistic Director for Allan Sebastian'€™s work on the movie, Best Cinematography for Ipung Rahmat Syaiful and Best Costume Designer for costumes designed by Retno Ratih Damayanti.

Drama Filosofi Kopi (Coffee Philosophy), adapted from a short story by Dewi '€œDee'€ Lestari, grabbed Citra trophies for Best Editing (Ahsan Andrian) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Jenny Jusuf).

'€œThis is my first Citra for my first movie,'€ said Jenny. '€œThis trophy is for those who keep dreaming and creating. Who knows, you could be here next year.'€

Two seasoned actors, Christine Hakim and Mathias Muchus, won the Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor categories, respectively. Christine starred in Pendekar Tongkat Emas (The Golden Cane Warrior), while Mathias played in family drama Toba Dreams.

Pendekar Tongkat Emas won two Piala Citra, including Aria Kusumah as Best Children'€™s Actor.

Meanwhile, Culture and Education Minister Anies Baswedan underlined the government'€™s commitment to supporting the movie industry.

'€œWe need quality movies that invite people into a dialogue,'€ he said.

This year'€™s FFI paid tribute to Teguh Karya, a legendary director-cum-playwright of Chinese and Banten descent who has won numerous Citra awards throughout his career.

For the first time in FFI history, the nominees took the front row while high-ranking officials sat behind them.

Since last year, the FFI implemented a new judging system to ensure fairness. This year'€™s improved system resembled that of the US Academy Awards.

Last year'€™s FFI nominees were granted FFI lifetime memberships, enabling them to participate in judging.

They assessed 278 movies '€” 61 feature films, 18 animated movies, 11 feature-length documentaries, 53 short documentaries, 116 short films and 19 made-for-TV movies.

This year'€™s judging also involved 2014 Piala Citra awardees.
