The French cultural center, Institut Français d'Indonésie (IFI), is set to bring the country's latest films to Indonesian audiences in nine cities during the 20th French Film Festival on Dec. 3-6.

"This year's festival also serves as a fresh start after 20 years as collaborations and partnerships in film-making between Indonesia and France become more vibrant and intensified," IFI director Marc Piton told a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Films from various genres that will be featured at the festival include a drama film by director Jacques Audiard, Dheepan, which will be screened during its opening night in Jakarta on Dec. 3.

The film, which revolves around the lives of three Srilankan refugees who flee to France in the hopes of a fresh start, won the prestigious Palm d'Or award at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

In addition to Dheepan, other French films visitors can expect to enjoy at the festival are Les Nouvelles Aventures d'Aladin, directed by Arthur Benzaquen; Taj Mahal, directed by Nicolas Saada; an animation film, Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince), from American director Mark Osborne; La Famille Bélier (The Bélier Family), directed by Eric Lartigau; Pourquoi j'ai pas mange mon pére (Monkey Business), directed by Jamel Debbouze; La French (The Connection), directed by Cédric Jimenez; and a family comedy, Le Pére Noel, (Santa Claus), directed by Alexandre Coffre.

Five cinematography collaborations between France and Indonesia will also be featured at the event, including Sang Penari (The Dancer), Laut Bercermin (The Mirror Never Lies), Berbagi Suami (Love for Share), The Photograph, and Garuda Power: The Spirit Within, which is an action documentary from director Bastian Meiressonne that traces the history of Indonesian martial-art films.

Visitors can also view eight films made by IFI's Indonesian short film competition finalists.

Tickets for the shows are available from Nov. 26 at IFI Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta and Balikpapan for Rp 35,000 (US$2.57) per film. (kes)
