he Tax Agency's Central Jakarta Office has erected a sign in front of its building on Jl. Asia Afrika in Central Jakarta announcing that the management of the Senayan Golf course is in arrears of the Urban and Rural Land and Building Tax to the value of Rp 8 billion (US$584,000).
Central Jakarta Mayor Mangara Pardede said on Tuesday that the sign was a warning to other taxpayers as well as putting pressure on the management of the golf course to pay its taxes.
'We called on the management to pay the taxes several days ago but they still haven't complied,' he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
He added that the agency would immediately take down the sign once the management paid the outstanding tax.
According to Mangara, the realization of tax income in Central Jakarta amounted to 98 percent. 'We only need to achieve the other 2 percent, including this golf course,' he said.
Senayan Golf director Suwito said the management wanted to pay the tax but they were seeking a discount. 'We will pay it but we hope there's a discount. We are embarrassed by the sign but we will pay the tax,' he said.
