ire triggered by leaking gas destroyed a home that was also being used as a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storehouse in Pondok Labu, Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon. Six people were reportedly injured in the incident.
Cilandak Police chief Comr. Mohammad Safe'I, who visited the site on Wednesday, said that six people suffered from burns sustained in the fire and they were brought to the nearby Prikasih Hospital.
The victims included Sukardi, 60, Abdulatif, 43, Ety, 40, Dini, 37, and 8-year-old Egi. One victim has yet to be identified.
'From information gathered at the site, the fire was triggered by leaking gas when the homeowner boiled water to make coffee,' he said, as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
The fire agency had to deploy 14 pumper trucks to extinguish the blaze.
A witness, Anto, said that at the start of the incident he heard an explosion. He said when the fire and thick smoke emerged from the house the surrounding neighbors tried to extinguish the flames.
'When the fire spread to the LPG canister store, we immediately called the fire agency,' he said.
