Issue of the day: House speaker to report minister to police

N

strong>Nov. 23, 2015

The lawyer of House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto, Rudi Alfonso, said his client would report Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said for alleged illegal wiretapping.

Rudi said the Golkar Party politician'€™s legal team would file the report with the police after it completely identified articles Sudirman had allegedly violated.

'€œDefinitely, we will file a police report,'€ he said as quoted by kompas.com on Monday.

Rudi went on to say that so far, the legal team found three suspected violations committed by Sudirman. First, the minister had secretly wiretapped conversations between Setya, oil businessman Riza Chalid and gold and copper mining company PT Freeport Indonesia president director Maroef Sjamsoeddin.

Second, he said, the minister'€™s move to spread a transcript of the conversations'€™ audio recording might cast aspersions on Setya and his good name.

Your comments:

Setya Novanto has no shame, he has used all means necessary to gain money from the people and extend the influence he commands by occupying the highest position in legislature.

Let'€™s take a look at the Donald Trump meeting case, or to be more precise, how after just several minutes on stage with Trump, he disgraced all Indonesians by merely nodding to everything Trump said.

How on that luxurious trip to the US East and West Coast he used our money to pay for his US$2,000 a night room, while at the very same moment the people in Sumatra and Kalimantan were suffocating due to the thickening haze.

How he displayed his expensive watch and cars, while at the same time there are millions of Indonesians living in shacks in different parts of the country.

His behavior is unfortunately also adopted by his peers in parliament, which of course contribute to the situation in which we Indonesians have to live with the fact that we have a useless legislature.

The current dispute between him and Sudirman is just a political play by the two individuals.

Sudirman is most probably jealous and angry for not getting the shares considering his position as a minister.

Remember, the previous minister of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry was apprehended by the KPK for fraud, who knows what Sudirman has up his sleeve?

Why did he report to the ethics council of the House (as far as the public know, lawmakers display no ethical behavior whatsoever)?

Why didn'€™t he file the report directly to the KPK? I can hardly trust any officials of this republic except for a few (Jakarta Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama for instance).

Let'€™s see how things will unfold.

One can only hope there are serious ramifications in this country for '€œlaying false charges'€.

This is so typical of the Indonesian people: trying to intimidate others by using the police as a threat as they don'€™t have the balls to fight their own battles.

It appears from a distance that this debacle has nothing to do with wire tapping albeit simply recording an office or hotel conversation.

One cannot try to hide behind the law whilst in pursuit of criminal conduct.

Oh Setya... So delusional of you to assume you have a good name. You can file as many police reports as you like, but it will not clean your name.

Dear President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo:

I know Setya Novanto is a key political ally of yours. He is the link for you to keep the peace with the House in which your party is the minority.

He is also the one helping keep the line open with that horse-riding ex-General who almost beat you at the most recent election.

So there is now a dilemma '€” you save this key political ally so you can maintain your weak grip of the presidency.

Or, do the right thing, i.e. seek the truth and justice for this alleged extortion and blackmail.

What is your choice Mr. President?

I hope all Indonesians pay the highest attention to how the events are unfolding concerning this scandalous affair.

I am afraid that most couldn'€™t care less.

To my Indonesian friends: please prove me wrong!

Well, we know that won'€™t happen. Not enough rope to fit over that big head.

He must be living in a bubble and doesn'€™t watch or read the news. He has had a bad reputation for a long time but because of his wealth he has been able to buy his way out of every controversial incident.

Curious how much stock he has in his portfolio from other companies he'€™s promised to help.

It must be a really hard thing to step down from his position '€” at least the until issues are cleared up. Too much to lose probably.

There have been too many '€œarguments'€ made by Setya and his best buddy Fadli.

a) Is a tape recording of a live conversation '€œwiretapping'€? I think those executives of Freeport know well when it is better to make a record while having a conversation with representatives of the
government.

b) As far as I understand, it was not the minister who made the tape but it was made by Freeport.

c) A transcript of a real tape recording casting aspersions against the good name of Setya?

Good name? As far as I am aware, in the past he has been embroiled in lawsuits many times already.
