19-year-old Jakartan named Rivaldi was shot dead during a brawl in the notorious Johar Baru district in Central Jakarta in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Central Jakarta Police spokesman Comr. Suyatno said that the brawl occurred at around 1 a.m. when two groups of youths clashed after a dispute erupted in relation to the volume of passing motorcycles. The loud sound ignited anger from one group of youths. A war of words soon disintegrated into a physical confrontation.
'The victim suffered from a gun shot wound. The perpetrator allegedly used an air rifle,' Suyatno said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said that the police arrived after receiving reports of the incident. 'Our investigators are still questioning five witnesses,' he said, adding that the police had confiscated several sharp weapons and rifles. 'The victim was brought to the Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital for an autopsy,' he said.
