he Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Agency is to make available free cemeteries to marginalized citizens who cannot afford to bury their relatives, the agency's chief, Ratna Diah Kurniati, has said.
Ratna said on Monday that the new program would launch in 2016, adding that the budget had been included in the 2016 city budget priority list. The service would only be available to Jakarta ID card holders, she said.
'It will start next year. You need to bring your Jakarta ID card, family card and SKTM [relief letter] from your district,' she said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
According to Ratna, 22 Jakarta cemeteries will participate in the program service, which will include bathing and burying the corpse and providing a marquis and sound system for the burial ceremony.
Along with the free cemetery service, she went on, the city would also grant Rp 885,000 (US$64) to the family of the deceased.
