A fire at the Indonesian embassy in Rome, Italy, on Wednesday morning, destroyed one staff room used to store documents and injured one staff member, an embassy official has said.

'€œThe fire was first identified by a local cleaning staff member. The staff tried to put out the fire but didn'€™t succeed,'€ the Deputy Chief of Mission Des Alwi told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

He said that the injured staff member, Tazwin Hanif, was now receiving medical treatment at a local hospital and that the embassy had been able to secure backups of the burned documents.

Des acknowledged that the embassy was still in the dark regarding the cause of the fire and said that the local police would investigate the incident. Despite the fire, he added, the embassy would still be open for consular activities this week.
