/strong>JAKARTA: Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi lobbied businesspeople and State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno on Friday to garner support for racer Rio Haryanto in his efforts to join Formula One.

Rio needs financial support of ¤15 million (US$16,2 million) to join the Manor Marussia F1 Team.

Rio is sponsored currently by Pertamina, which has agreed to hand over ¤5 million for the racer'€™s F1 dream. Rio still needs another ¤10 million to join F1.

The Indonesian racer has less than three weeks to join the Manor team.

Imam spoke to local businesspeople drum up support for the racer on Friday at a national meeting of Indonesian Motorsports Indonesia (IMI).The minister also met with Rini to seek additional support.

'€œI need to find a perfect formula for Rio'€™s financial support to meet Manor team'€™s requirements,'€ Imam said in a statement.

'€œWe'€™ve got businessmen like Aksa Mahmud and Adiguna Sutowo [at the IMI'€™s national meeting], I really hope they can help Rio,'€ he said.

Rio has been shaping up his driving skills over the past three years in GP2 races. In 2015, Rio finished at fourth place with Campos Racing.
