The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) summoned on Monday two former executives of state-owned port operator Pelindo II in its investigation into a graft case related to the procurement of three Quay Container Cranes (QCC).
The two witnesses were former Pelindo II operational and technical director Ferialdy Noerlan and Wahyu Hardiyanto, the firm's former procurement bureau chief.
'They were questioned as witnesses for RJL,' KPK spokeswoman Yuyuk Andriati said on Monday, referring to Richard Joost Lino by his initials, who has been named a suspect in the case.
The KPK named Lino a suspect in a corruption case related to the procurement of three QCCs for Pelindo II on Dec. 18. The KPK has yet to question Lino in the case.
Lino stands accused of misusing his authority to enrich himself by directly appointing Chinese company Wuxi Huadong Heavy Machinery Co Ltd (HDHM) in the procurement of three cranes in 2010. He has been charged under the Corruption Law and Criminal Code.
The KPK questioned last week Dedi Iskandar, a senior official at Pelindo II's planning and business development II subdirectorate and Mashudi Sanyoto, the technical operations director of state-owned port equipment service company PT Jasa Peralatan Pelabuhan Indonesia (JPPI).
The National Police named Ferialdy a suspect in September last year in a graft case related to the procurement of fixed crane loading and unloading equipment. Ferialdy was the only suspect in that case.
Ferialdy is known as a confidant of Lino, who resisted a police search at Pelindo II's offices in August last year. The police accused Ferialdy of violating the Corruption Law for allegedly inflating prices in the 2013 procurement project. The procurement of 10 mobile cranes was said to be needed for eight ports.
Lino filed a pretrial petition with the South Jakarta District Court last week, during which his lawyers asked the KPK to postpone his questioning.
Lino's lawyer, Maqdir Ismail, asked that questioning be postponed while his client's pretrial motion was being processed. "We have asked [the KPK] not to summons our client and to postpone his questioning," said Maqdir.
KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo said last week that he had instructed the commission's legal bureau to prepare a defense statement to bolster its position in the pretrial hearing.
"I have been briefed by the KPK's legal team regarding the pretrial fight. We are ready to face it. We are prepared," Agus said on Tuesday.
On Monday, KPK spokesman Priharsa Nugraha announced that the antigraft body had imposed a six-month travel ban on Lino. (ebf)
