The Jakarta Smart City (JSC) Lounge at City Hall has opened its doors to the public and is inviting everyone to participate in making the city a better place to live, an official has said.

'€œJakarta Governor Basuki '€˜Ahok'€™ Tjahaja Purnama has come up with the idea of integrating the needs of the city government and the general public together in one place,'€ Jakarta Smart City working unit technical chief Setiaji told thejakartapost.com on Friday.

The JSC lounge, located on the third floor of City Hall, is an extension of the Jakarta Smart City mobile application, an integrated online platform launched last year with the aim of increasing public participation in the city's development.

Along with the establishment of the lounge, the government intends to expand its scope by inviting startups and app developers to join.

"The lounge not only consists of operational rooms, there is also an area designated for young creative people as a form of incubator or a working space for them to develop ideas to help the government to improve public services," said Setiaji.

The program originally began with two apps, namely Qlue and CROP, one app for residents to lodge complaints and one for city leaders to respond to the complaints.

According to Setiaji, seven apps were now part of JSC, each covering a different area, from public transportation navigation assistance to culinary tips.

Setiaji also explained that the lounge, which occupies 500 square meters, features a command center with an LED wall and latest equipment, adding that app developers would have access to Jakarta government's open data facility.

The official launch is scheduled to be held on the Jakarta Anniversary on Jun. 22. By then, Setiaji said, all systems would be running at full speed. (bbn)(+)
