For British designer Jade Jagger, art is a way of life through which she has carved a strong reputation as a jewelry designer, interior designer and painter.

Designer Jade Jagger'€™s bohemian luxury jewelry line has been stocked at New York'€™s Saks Fifth Avenue and the Galeries Lafayette in Paris, while her creative works adorn residential and hotel premises around the world.

Her designs will soon be seen in Indonesia as Jagger, under Jade Jagger for Yoo property design company, will collaborate with KSO Waskita Dalawa to build an apartment in Klungkung, Bali.

'€œI love the tropics in Asia, so it'€™s exciting to start working on the project there,'€ she said during a Skype interview with a group of journalists.

Jagger said the project, called Zalakka and slated for construction sometime in 2016, would incorporate modern design with the background of a lush garden.

The 44-year-old designer joined Yoo in 2004, coming up with The Jade Hotel in New York as her pilot project. This was followed soon after by The Lakes '€” a private estate in one of England'€™s most sought after country hideaways, the Cotswolds, and a number of living space projects and apartment buildings in Marrakech and Mumbai.

Working together with her long-standing design partner Tom Bartlett, Jagger brings a feminine touch to each of her designs.

'€œI work with a male designer, and together we hopefully create a happy balance, as we try to bring the feminine and masculine elements to the designs that we do,'€ she said.

Her designs the reflect different facets of her eclectic and nomadic lifestyle as she divides her time between London, Goa and Ibiza '€” places that have inspired her design style.

She has chosen four design palettes that combine clean lines, warm tones and coolness that have been translated from Ibizan farmhouses, Goan beach living, New York discos and English country houses.

Born in Paris, Jagger'€™s love affair with art begun when she was little. After the divorce of her parents '€” model and philanthropist Bianca Jagger and rock legend Mick Jagger '€” she moved to New York with her mother.

There, her mother often asked her friend, pop artist Andy Warhol, to babysit her. The times that little Jagger spent with Warhol in his studio, The Factory, helped inspire and nurture her artistic side as Warhol taught her how to paint and color.

'€œI grew up in the 70s and 80s. I do really think I was inspired by the artists I was surrounded by, whether it was Andy Warhol, Calvin Klein or Diane von Fürstenberg, who kind of guided me during my childhood,'€ she said.

She followed up her interest in art by studying painting in Florence and held numerous successful exhibitions.

Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish Jade Inc. in 1996, applying a colorful, bohemian aesthetic to one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.

Initially, her collection was available exclusively through Paul Smith stores around the world, but her company soon went global as her collections filled the displays at more luxury goods department stores.

Her commercial success attracted the attention of internationally renowned jewelry manufacturer Asprey & Garrard, which appointed her its creative director in 2000.

After many successful stints in interior and jewelry designs, she expanded her portfolio by doing fashion collaborations and designing products, including a diamond-studded ice pick for Belvedere Vodka and the bottle of Guerlain'€™s most famous perfume, Shalimar.

'€œI started as a painter and then I was interested in all elements of design. For me it is all about the application of great personality and my love of color, of texture that come into each design. Whether I'€™m making jewelry or making a bedroom, I sort of feel the same desire to create something special and unique,'€ she said.

Despite the fun in designing things, being a designer has also been challenging.

'€œSometimes the challenge comes within the space, or within working around the limitations that you have. You also have to make sure that everything is on the right track, you always have to concentrate to ensure that each detail isn'€™t forgotten, because it'€™s in those details that beauty really happens,'€ she said.

Nowadays, apart from her busy schedule managing her stores in London and India, Jagger is also busy taking care of her one-and-a-half-year-old son who was born not long after the birth of her granddaughter.

The mother of three said that she always tried to be as close to her baby as possible by working at home or taking him with her when she traveled.

'€œMy work and family life are kind of woven into one and that'€™s how I always live my life, and that'€™s the only way to make sure that we can be close. We take some time out, too, but it can be hard sometimes.'€
