Immigration offices across the country have intensified their monitoring of potential terrorists, an official said on Thursday.
Law and Human Rights Ministry immigration directorate general spokesperson Heru Santoso Ananta Yudha said that his office had intensified coordination among foreigner supervision teams across the country.
"The coordination between related institutions has been raised from its previous level," Heru told thejakartapost.com.
The coordination was intensified in response to the terror attack in Jakarta on Jan. 14 that killed eight and left over 20 injured.
Immigration director general Ronny F Sompie said that every regency and city-level office had formed a foreigner supervision team, which was made up of representatives from related ministries and agencies who were tasked with carrying out surveillance activities.
'Our strength lies in our cooperation to safeguard the sovereignty of the nation,' he said.
The director general also said the online immigration management information system, which connected all immigration offices, allowed for rapid communication.
This system made it easy to examine Indonesian citizens as well as foreign nationals travelling in and out of the country, Ronny said.
Should there be any Indonesian citizens repatriated, immigration officials, together with the National Police and National Police's Densus 88 counterterrorism squad were ready to conduct any necessary investigation upon their arrival, he added.(+)
