T

he results of an autopsy conducted on the body of terrorist suspect Siyono will be announced within 10 days of its completion, the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has said.

A team of doctors appointed by the central board of Muhammadiyah, the country’s second-largest Islamic organization, is conducting the autopsy on the remains of Siyono, who died while police custody.

Komnas HAM will coordinate with the forensics team to discuss the scope of information that will be revealed to the public, Komnas HAM commissioner Siane Indriani told kompas.com

"Together with Muhammadiyah’s central board, we will announce the autopsy results to the public," Siane said on Tuesday.

Residents of Pogung village, Klaten, Central Java, have provided assistance by pitching tents at night, making sure there is enough drinking water and even offering friend bananas, Siane said.

It was previously reported that locals initially rejected the idea of Siyono’s remains being exhumed, claiming that Siyono’s family had provided a written statement that said his body would not undergo an autopsy.

However, Siane said Komnas HAM was investigating the reports as locals did not voice any rejections during the commission's visit to the village.

Meanwhile, head of the National Police's health and medical center, Brig. Gen. Arthur Tampi, said an autopsy was unnecessary as a medical examination had already revealed the cause of Siyono's death.

"Even without an autopsy, we can say that the cause of his death was a head injury. This is backed by a CT scan”, Arthur said.

The examination also proved that there were no shot wounds on Siyono's body, Arthur said.

It's already too late to conduct an autopsy as his body has started to decompose, he added.

Muhammadiyah central board member Busyro Muqqodas said the autopsy was conducted to seek justice and the truth behind Siyono's death. About 100 police officers from the Klaten Police and hundreds of personnel from the Muhammadiyah Youth Force Readiness Command (Kokam) Central Java branch helped secure the area during the autopsy.
