The police arrested one suspected terrorist identified as MA in North Jakarta and a married couple in Bekasi identified as AR and S, the latter the ex-wife of MA.
fficers of the National Police’s Densus 88 antiterror squad on Monday arrested in North Jakarta and Bekasi three individuals allegedly affiliated with the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), a homegrown militant group that has been linked to Islamic State.
National Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo said that the arrests were made in West Semper subdistrict in Cilincing, North Jakarta, and in Karang Satria village in North Tambun, Bekasi.
Dedi confirmed that the individuals were affiliated with “JAD Bekasi and other JAD [branches]", as quoted by kompas.com. "We have conducted preventive [operations] in several locations to avoid terror attacks,” he added
Densus 88 officers discovered an explosive made from a plastic bottle containing triacetone triperoxide (TATP) at the residence of suspected terrorist MA, 20, who was arrested in Cilincing.
In addition to the bomb, the antiterror squad also seized chemicals including sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide and an unidentified white powder.
North Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Budhi Herdi Susianto said that the explosive device had been disposed of by controlled detonation on an empty plot.
“[The device] we discovered at the crime scene weighed 0.5 kilograms and it was ready to detonate. Based on the sound of the explosion, it was a highly sensitive [explosive],” he said.
