N

o Indonesian citizens were listed as passengers on the EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo that crashed in the Mediterranean Sea on Thursday morning, according to the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo.

The embassy passed on the information through its Twitter account @CairoKbri and the Indonesian Foreign Ministry retweeted the information on its Twitter account @Portal_Kemlu_RI on Thursday afternoon.

"There were no Indonesian citizens on the lost Egypt Air MS804 Gaulle - Cairo based on passenger data @Portal_Kemlu_Ri," the @CairoKbri twitter message stated.

Previously, the Foreign Ministry said it was closely coordinating with the Indonesian Embassies in Cairo and Paris as well as with the representative of EgyptAir in Jakarta to obtain further information.

The Associated Press reported earlier that Egypt Air Flight 804 was lost from radar at 2:45 a.m. local time, when it was flying at 37,000 feet. Unnamed aviation officials later confirmed the possibility that the plane had crashed, as it had not landed at any nearby airport.

The search for debris is now underway, with Egyptian military aircraft and navy ships taking part in a search operation off Egypt's Mediterranean coast.

The plane was carrying 56 passengers, including one child and two babies, and 10 crew members. EgyptAir said those on board included 15 French passengers, 30 Egyptians, one Briton, two Iraqis, one Kuwaiti, one Saudi, one Sudanese, one Chadian, one Portuguese, one Belgian, one Algerian and one Canadian.
