ilitary and police personnel have been deployed to secure the site of a plane crash on Sunday that killed all four people aboard, ahead of an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) in Pohuwato regency, Gorontalo.

The twin-engine DHC-6 turboprop plane, operated by SAM Air, took off on Sunday at 7:03 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (6:03 a.m. in Jakarta) from Gorontalo regency’s Djalaluddin Airport and was expected to arrive at around 7:33 a.m. at Bumi Panua Airport in Pohuwato.

Contact with the aircraft was lost minutes before its scheduled arrival time and it was found later to have crashed into a fish farm near the destination airport  in Imbodu village in Pohuwato regency.

The Gorontalo Search and Rescue Agency said it had received a report from AirNav Makassar around 9 a.m. on Sunday regarding the crash. The SAM Air aircraft’s last contact was with AirNav Makassar, which received information that it had crashed near Bumi Panua Airport in Pohuwato, the provincial SAR agency chief Heriyanto said on Sunday.

Gorontalo Police chief Insp. Gen. Pudji Prasetijanto Hadi said his personnel had been deployed to secure the area immediately after the report.

He said security would be maintained until a KNKT team arrived, expected on Monday, to conduct an investigation at the scene.
